ABINGDON, Va. Karen Jane Osborne Combs, 62, of Abingdon, Va., entered into rest on Wednesday, December 25, 2013, in her home surrounded by her family. After a courageous six year battle with cancer, she is now at peace in the arms of God. Born April 13, 1951, in Johnson City, Tenn., she is the daughter of Bill and Wanda Osborne of Abingdon, Va. She was a 1969 Graduate of Abingdon High School, 1976 Graduate of Virginia Highlands Community College, a member of Denton Valley Baptist Church and in her words, "Domestic Engineer." Karen also held a membership in the "Combs Outlaw Club". She was a wonderful wife, mother and GiGi to her grandson. Her favorite times were those spent with family and friends, but anyone who knew her would say Karen was the happiest either on a boat fishing or spending time with her little "E". In addition to her parents, Karen is survived by her husband of 43 years, Allen Combs; one daughter, Michelle Grubb and husband, Randy; special grandson, Ethan of Abingdon, Va.; and a very special brother, fishing buddy and partner in crime, Kyle Osborne of Abingdon, Va. Karen is preceded in death by special grandparents, Frank and Nola Johnson and Dicie South; uncles, Earl South, Carl Johnson, Vaughn Osborne; and aunt, Virginia Bailey; sisters-in-law, Linda Osborne, Alice Kyle, Frances Church, Mary Jackson; and brothers-in-law; Henry Combs, Jim Church, and C.H. Denton. She is survived by aunts, Deloris Bowman (Denny), Lorraine Whitson (Jay) and Alma South all of Johnson City; Allene Goodnight (Olan) of Charlotte, N.C., and Linda Dejarnette of Kansas City, Mo.; uncles, Bob South (Bonnie), Charles South (Lillie), Jack South, and Lewis Johnson all of Johnson City; sisters-in-law, Dorothy Weaver (Joe), and Lola Denton of Bristol, Ann Lowry (Bobby), Shirley Murray (Walter), Erma Brown (Larry) all of Abingdon; brothers-in-law, J.W. Combs (Jean), and Sam Jackson of Bristol, D.C. Combs Jr (Kathleen), Paul Combs (Mary Lou), and Howard Combs (Patty) all of Abingdon. Along with her immediate family, those left to cherish the many memories made with Karen are numerous special nieces and nephews. Special thanks to sisters-in-law, Shirley Combs, Ann Lowry, and Mary Lou Combs for the care they provided. Much thanks to her cousin, Sandy Harrison of Johnson City, Tenn., for all of her love and support during her sickness. Funeral services for Karen Combs will be conducted 11 a.m. Saturday, December 28, 2013, at the Frost Funeral Home Chapel with Pastor Tim Stevens and Pastor Bob McCormick officiating. Burial will follow the service at the Forest Hills Memory Gardens Saturday. Active pallbearers will be Joshua Osborne, Steve Kyle, Lyn Combs, Kel Lowry, Dennis Arnold, Todd Murray, and Travis Brown.
