Birchdale Past & Present: Minnie Frary grew up in Mondovi, WI, the daughter of George Riley Frary & Sarah Celinda Prentice. She had 10 siblings: Emma Agnes, George Isaac, Susanna, Oren Prentice, Ada Violet, Jennie, Diantha Marie, Lillie, Hattie J., & William Marvin.
Minnie became a school teacher at the first organized school in the Staples, MN district. It was there that she met & married William McGillivray in 1889. Minnie & William lived in the Staples area for several years & their daughter Beulah was born there.
In 1906, the family moved up to a homestead southeast of Birchdale. They spent the rest of their lives on the homestead.
After about 5 years in Birchdale, their daughter Joyce was born. Beulah was already married to Perle McCusker when Joyce arrived. Sadly, they had lost 5 children in infancy between Beulah & Joyce.
When Minnie died in 1954, she was buried beside William in the Birchdale Cemetery.
