Mr. George Roland Betts, Sr.
(December 29, 1919 - October 14, 2007)

Mr. George Roland Betts, Sr. was born to the late Reverend Mark and Dora Lockhart-Betts. He was the grandson of the late Reverend Joseph Betts and Mary Betts and the late Mr. & Mrs. Les and Fannie Vaughn-Lockhart. He departed this life on Sunday, October 14, 2007 in Atlanta, Georgia.

Mr. George Roland Betts, Sr. attended the Betts School in Madison, Alabama. He confessed hope in Christ and was baptized at an early age and later served as a Deacon at the Little Indian Creek Primitive Baptist Church.

Mr. George R. Betts, Sr. was united in holy matrimony to Fannie Ora Appleton-Betts who preceded him in death. To this union, six children were born.

Mr. George R. Betts, Sr. served in World War II at Guadalcanal and was honorably discharged. He returned to Madison County to cultivate the land on his farm, growing cotton, sugar cane, watermelons, cantaloupes, and various fruits and vegetables. He worked as a school bus driver for the Madison County School System and retired after 30 years of service.

He was preceded in death by one daughter, Linda Darnell Betts; one sister, Fannie Mae Townsend; and three brothers, Burnam, Richard and Damon Betts.

The generations left to await the return of the Lord Jesus Christ by Mr. George R. Betts, Sr. are three daughters: Etta Ruth Moore (Walter Lee) of Atlanta, GA, Mary Louise Garth (Anderson) of Detroit, MI and Bobbie Jean Betts of Athens, AL; two sons: George Roland Betts, Jr. (Helen) and Charles Edward Betts both of Atlanta, GA; four sisters: Gertha Lewis of Detroit, MI, Lorene McClendon of Chattanooga, TN, Marie Killebrew and Hazel Cunnigham both of Louisville, KY; fourteen grandchildren; fourteen great grandchildren; one great-great grandchild, and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.

Funeral service will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Sunday, October 21, 2007 at the Little Indian Creek Primitive Baptist Church (884 Indian Creek Road, Huntsville, Alabama 35806) with Pastor Jerry L. Crutcher officiating. Interment will be held in the Madison Memory Gardens. Mr. George Roland Betts, Sr. will lie in repose one hour prior to funeral time.
