Pvt G L Rogers killed in France. Mr and Mrs Lonnie H Rogers of McCall Community received word from the War Department Monday that their son, Gilbert L Rogers, 24 years of age, had been killed in action in France July 14.

Pvt Rogers entered service October 2, 1941 and went overseas December 1943.

He was a member of the 121st Infantry Regiment Eight Infantry Division which has been in the thick of the fighting in France since D Day.

He attended the New Friendship school and graduated. Prior to entering the Army he was engaged in farming. He was a young man of fine character and pleasing personality and had many friends over the county, all of whom extended deepest sympathy to his bereaved family.

He is survived by his parents, two brothers, Otis and Lloyd Rogers; four sisters, Nadine, Lavelle and Suenelle Rogers and Mrs Mayrene Walker of Lexington; grandparents Mr and Mrs R L Rogers of Lexington, Mrs Pinkney Carter of Knoxville, and Foster grandparents Mr and Mrs J T Rhodes of Route 3 Henderson.
