Black Hawk - William "Bill" Charles Martell, 63, Black Hawk, died Saturday, Oct. 29, 2005, at his residence in Black Hawk. William "Bill" Charles Martell was born on Jan. 28, 1942, at McLaughlin, S.D., to Albert and Evelyn (Watson) Martell. As a young boy, he lived in the McLaughlin area until 1957 when the family moved to Pierre, S.D. Bill joined the Army in January 1960 and served until February 1985. While serving his country, he was in Vietnam for two tours of duty and served in Germany for 13 years. While in the military, Bill was presented with numerous military ribbons. He moved back to Fort Carson, Colo., at which time he retired from the military. He moved back to South Dakota in 1986. He was married to Carrie Carney Sept. 21, 1994, at Custer, S.D. The couple has lived in Black Hawk since 1993. Bill worked at Fort Meade Medical Center from 1987 to 1992 at which time he got his medical retirement. He later worked as a bartender at The HideAway Lounge from 1999 until 2001. Survivors include his wife,two daughters and their husband's,two sisters,four brothers and two sisters-in-law. Also surviving are two very special stepsons,a very special brother-in-law,special mother-in-law,a very special adopted son and numerous grandchildren, nieces, and nephews.

His parents, two brothers, Merlin and Jerry, and two brothers-in-law, Leroy and Al, preceded him in death.

Visitation will be on Tuesday, Nov. 1, 2005, at the Kinkade Funeral Chapel from 8 a.m. until 9 p.m. with the family present from 5 until 7 p.m. Funeral Services will be held at 2 p.m. Wednesday, Nov. 2, 2005, at the Kinkade Funeral Chapel with Chaplain Moe Greiner officiating. Burial will follow with military honors at the Black Hills National Cemetery. Bill's wish is that everyone be in blue jeans and shirts.
