LaHoma (Karlstrom-Ryan) Bandy went to be with the Lord on Thursday, December 26, 2013. She died in Richardson, Texas, at the age of 94 years, one month and 22 days. She was born November 4, 1919, to Berger and Kathryn LaHoma (Harklerode) Karlstrom, in Washington, D.C. She was raised by her loving mother and loving step father David A. “Red” Ryan. She grew up and attended school and graduated from Frederick High School. She was united in marriage to Johnnie A. Bandy on August 26, 1939, at Frederick, Oklahoma. They resided in Frederick and were active members of the Trinity Baptist Church. They moved from Frederick to Lawton in 1956. While in Lawton, they attended Beal Heights Presbyterian Church. After retirement, she and her husband lived on Waurika Lake for many years before moving to the Dallas area to be near family. LaHoma was a dedicated Christian mother, wife, grandmother and friend. To say she was a housewife or homemaker really doesn’t paint the full picture. She was the spunky matriarch of her family, providing care, laughs, and lovingly making clothing, afghans and ceramic Christmas decorations. She was quick with a joke, but also quick to help whenever she was needed. She was the first to volunteer to watch the grandkids (or anyone’s kids), and she would be the first to lend an ear to anyone who needed it, whether it was 2 p.m. or 2 a.m.. She volunteered at the Red Cross for many years, helping at Comanche County Memorial Hospital and Southwestern Hospital and assisting special needs children. She loved to laugh, hold hands, garden, sew, knit, play cards and dance. Most of all, she loved to be surrounded by talking, happy people.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband: Johnnie A. Bandy on January 6, 2011; daughter: Sarah Elizabeth Roberts; two brothers: D. A. Ryan and Patrick Ryan; and one sister: Mickey Tivis.
Survivors include a son: Dr. John David Bandy and wife Matilda, of

Jackson, Tennessee; a daughter: Susan Threadgill and husband Ron, of Dallas, Texas; two brothers: Buddy Ryan and George Ryan and wife Janette; seven grandchildren: Cynthia Burroughs Hill, Melissa Burroughs Karlberg and husband EJ, Aaron Bandy, Eric Bandy, Katy Dori-Roberts and husband Chen, Sarah Roberts Newmarker and husband John, and Rachel Threadgill; and seven great grandchildren: Canon and Lily Hill, Hansen and Addie Karlberg, Naya and Bae Dori-Roberts and Noah Bartolomei.
