Born in Hagerstown, she was the daughter of Fred and Mary Snavely Sounders.
She was a member of John Wesley United Methodist Church;and Women's Auxiliary of the Washington County Hospital.
She is survived by her husband, Herschel H. Thurmond; a son, Michael L. Thurmond, at home; and a brother, Roy F. Souders, St. Petersburg, Fla.
Services will be held at the Minnich Funeral Home on Wilson Blvd., at 1 p.m. on Monday. The Rev. William E. Firth and the Rev. G. Edward Grove and the Rev. G. Barlow Harris will officiate. Burial will be in Rose Hill Cemetery.
The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Sunday evening from 7 to 9.
Memorial donations may be made to the Community Rescue Service, or Women's Auxiliary to the Washington County Hospital.
