DOCTOR, OPERA FAN DIES

DR. R. V. MYERS, physician and music lover, died last night in Madison Hospital. He had been admitted earlier in the day for the second time in recent weeks. He had been ill since May 21. Dr. Myers was well known for his musical participation and patronage of his 30 years practice of medicine.

Dr. Rienzi Verne Myers was a Shelby native, the son of the late Dr. I. A. and Malvina Matson Myers. He spent his childhood in that city. He received a bachelor of arts degree from Adelbert College and his medical degree from Western Reserve University. Years later, he took graduate work at the University of Vienna.

He came to Mansfield as a medical intern at the Ohio State Reformatory, establishing an office for the private practice of medicine more than 30 years ago at 33 East Third St., where it has remained throughout the years. Dr. Myers served for 22 years as an instructor in Mansfield General Hospital's school of nursing. Diseases of the skin were his specialty.

With the late Prof. Eugene Weinberger, Dr. Myers formed the Mansfield Symphony Orchestra in 1930. He played violin and clarinet and was instrumental in starting may young people in musical careers. It was his custom to assist them in buying instruments and often gave them gratis instruction.

For many years Dr. and Mrs. Myers, the former Otilla Bodey, invited their musical friends to their home at Park Ave. every week to study classical compositions. He was an opera enthusiast and attended the entire week each year when the Metropolitan Opera came to Cleveland. Travel was also a hobby of the couple.

During World War I and II, Dr. Myers served on the advisory board of the U.S. Draft Boards being in charge of the examination of reference cases.

He is survived by his wife; two nephews, Addison Myers of Spokane, WA and David Myers of Los Angeles, CA.
