Retha Mae Morris of Fairview passed away Monday (Dec. 23, 2013) at St. Barbara's Nursing Home in Monongah surrounded by her loving family.

She was born in Carolina, a daughter of the late Minter Carpenter and Ruby (Jobe) Carpenter.

Retha Mae was a loving caring and giving homemaker, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother.

In her earlier years she worked at Westinghouse Lamp Plant in Fairmont. She retired from Pleasant Acres Nursing Home after working as an aid for 25 years. She was a member of the Farmington Church of Christ. Retha was a loving person who cared and helped everyone.

She is survived by her loving husband of 66 years, Virgil Morris of Fairview; three daughters, Eileen Balch and her husband John of Fairmont, Diana Booth and her husband Durwin of Mannington, and Pat Santee and her husband Lenny of Kentucky; three sons, Keith Morris and his wife Debbie of Fairmont, Van Morris of Fairmont and Dwight Morris of Pittsburgh, Pa.; seven grandchildren and their spouses, Travis Booth and his wife Samantha, Shawn Booth, Lauramarie Booth, Jacinda Tran and her husband Thai, Alica Atha and her husband Caleb, Samantha Balch, and Christy Grimm and her husband Darren; and eight great-grandchildren, Desiree Balch, Dixie Balch, Daisy Balch, James Balch, Dakota Kimble, Dahlia Kimble, Jonathan Grimm and Dylan Grimm.

Also surviving are her brother, Sonny Carpenter and his wife Ann of Monongah, and a brother-in-law, Carol Shisslett, as well as several nieces and nephews.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by three grandchildren, Faith Santee, Brian Kirk Morris and Craig Michael Morris, and three sisters, Nancy Carpenter and her husband Jim, Carolyn Wilson and her husband Clarence, and Kay Shisslett.

Family and friends may call at Carpenter and Ford Funeral Home, 209 Merchant St., Fairmont, from 2-8 p.m. Thursday and from 9-10 a.m. Friday. The funeral service will be held in the funeral home at 10 a.m. Friday with Evangelist Brent Gallagher officiating. Interment will follow at West Virginia National Cemetery in Pruntytown.

Mrs. Morris's family would like to thank the doctors and staff of the Tygart Center, Pierpont Center and St. Barbara's Nursing Home, and the doctors and staff of Monongalia General Hospital for their wonderful care of her during her illness.
