Social observer. Starting as a High Tory but eventually becoming a Radical, Cobbett was responsible for the periodical 'Political Register' as well as 'Rural Rides', which slated the effect of the Industrial Revolution on rustic communities. He attempted to return Thomas Paine's bones to England, but claimed to have 'lost' the remains on the sea journey. To this day, the location of Paine's bones are unknown.
