Rolland F. Gates
FREWSBURG--Rolland F. Gates, 61, of 197 Falconer St., died at 3:17 p.m. Monday (July 8, 1968) in Jamestown General Hospital.
He was born Oct. 22, 1906, in Gowanda, a son of Herbert and Arlie Sprague Gates. He lived in Frewsburg 18 years.
Mr. Gates was employed for more than 25 years at Watson Mfg. Co. For the past eight years, he maintained a nursery at the Falconer Street address. He was a veteran of World War II, having served with Battery B, 770th Field Artillery, 8th Division, in Algeria, French Morocco, Tunisia, Sicily, the Ardennes, Central Europe, Normandy and Northern France and the Rhineland.
He was a member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars.
Surviving are his wife, Mrs. Arlene Rathrock Gates; two daughters, Miss Carol Lynn Gates, Jamestown; and Lori Ann Gates and a son, Rolland H. Gates; two brothers, Merrill W. Gates and Lee E. Gates, both of East Randolph; a sister, Mrs. Glenn Waite, South Stockton; two nephew, Arnie Huntington and Larry Huntington, both of Los Angeles, Calif.; an aunt, Mrs. Herman Gates, Wilson; and an uncle, Harry Sprague, Crestwood, N.J.
Services will be at 2 p.m. Wednesday in the Blair Funeral Home, Frewsburg. The Rev. Bertil A. Erling, pastor of the Zion Lutheran Church, Frewsburg, officiating. Burial will be in Valley View Cemetery, Ellington. Friends may call at the funeral home this afternoon and evening.
