Preceded by her husband - H. Frederick Swartz (August 13, 1967).

Survived by a son of Castle Rock, Colorado; two daughter of Lawrence; three brothers - C.M. "Pete" Mapes, Warren "Dutch" Mapes (died same day as Donald) of San Jose, California, and Donald F. Mapes of Springfield, Illinois; nine grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren.

Gertrude was 91 years old of Everest. She died at Eudora Nursing Center. She was born in Horton and is the daughter of Justin B. and Alice (nee Lyons) Mapes. A graduate of Horton High School (1928). She was a homemaker and a CNA (Certified Nurse's Aide) with Tri-County Manor in Horton. She had been a house mother at ESU (Emporia State University). She married Henry Frederick Swartz, Jr. on Aug. 10, 1932, in Topeka, Kansas.

The Mapes were owner-operators of Swartz Motor Company in Everest. Gertrude was a member of Everest United Methodist Church in Everest. She held several offices within the church including United Methodist Women. She was also involved with the Everest Historical Society and Farm Bureau Brown County Extension Club.
