Larry L. Starkey passed away on Saturday, December 21, 2013 after a valiant battle with cancer.

He was born April 6, 1951 to Leonard R. Starkey and E. Joanne Davis. He spent his growing up years in Meridian, Idaho, where he attended elementary, middle schools and graduated from Meridian High School. He excelled in business and continued throughout his life.

Larry started his working career in Washington, DC in the State Department, where he was responsible for top secret reports. He moved to Ogden, Utah, working in auditing for the Internal Revenue Service. Larry had a roving spirit about him and liked the challenge of new endeavors.

He worked for Mercy Medical Center in Nampa, Idaho; Farm Bureau in Salt Lake City, Utah; United Grocers in Medford, Oregon; and Associated Foods in Salt Lake City, Utah. His last job was with Harmon's Foods over the artisan breads making forever friendships. However, his favorite job was with Essential Insurance Services traveling throughout the states of Utah, Idaho, and Wyoming doing insurance inspections.

While working at the IRS, he met the love of his life on a blind date, Sandy Gamble from Smithfield, Utah. They were married on July 14, 1973 and just celebrated their fortieth year together. After fourteen years of marriage, they were blessed with their daughter, Kimberly Ellen. She was the apple of his eye and he was hers. They were a very loving and close family.

He was a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, where he served in various organizations, some were teaching in the Primary, Executive Secretary, and Membership Clerk. He had a very strong testimony as exemplified in his daily activities and interaction with people.

Larry was an immediate friend with everyone he met. His charm and personality drew people to him. He could carry on conversation with anyone and they shared their lives with him as if they had known him forever. He loved being around people listening and observing. He loved to watch sports and attend sporting events whenever he could. His favorite teams were the Utah State Aggies and the BYU Cougars. He forever loved the Washington Redskins.

Dogs were a big part of his life and he cherished them. You didn't very often see Larry without a dog by his side. He had a very special bond with his most recent dog, Dakota. Dakota is extremely lost without Larry but with the special love of his mother, she will be well taken care of. He had a real knack for flowers, landscaping, rock falls, and fish ponds. No one had a greener thumb or greater love for yards. He had many other loves, traveling, shopping, and ICE CREAM.

Larry is survived by his wife, Sandy, and his daughter, Kimberly, both of Riverton, Utah; his mother, Joanne Davis, Riverton, Utah; a sister Sarah (Robert) Munsey, Medford, Oregon; and a niece, Jill Munsey. He is preceded in death by his father, his step-dad, Richard (Dick) Davis, and grandparents.

Funeral services will be held on Friday, December 27, 2013 at 11:00 a.m. in the Copperview Stake Center, 12154 South 3600 West, Riverton, Utah, with Bp. Nathan Kunz conducting.
