Rhodes, Cornelius "Neil" Anthony, 79, a resident of 780 Bank Church Road, Dayton, passed away Wednesday, March 6, 2013, at his home. He had been in declining health due to kidney failure.
Neil was born Nov. 29, 1933, near Dayton, the twelfth of 13 children to the late Webster Clay and Sarah Mabel Showalter Rhodes.

He was educated at Hilltop, Rushville and Dayton High Schools and engaged in farming. He was a member of the Pleasant View Mennonite Church.

Neil was united in marriage on Dec. 9, 1956, to Ellen (Knicely) Rhodes, who survives.

Also surviving are two daughters, Anita J. Rhodes and Laura E. Rhodes, both of Dayton; one son, Linden J. Rhodes and wife, Christie, of Singers Glen; and four grandchildren, Morgan, Grant, Cheri and Lorena Rhodes. Surviving siblings are Esther Rohrer, Ida (Wilbur) Rohrer, Norma Koogler and John (Louise) Rhodes, all of Dayton, Reuben (Margaret) Rhodes of Harrisonburg and Luke (Miriam) Rhodes of Ashland, Ohio; and many nieces and nephews.

Preceding him in death were five brothers, Mark, Harry, Frank, Eber and Daniel Rhodes, and one sister, Edith Showalter.

The family will receive friends at the home Friday, March 8, 2013, from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m.

Ministers of the church will conduct a funeral service Saturday, March 9, 2013, at 10:30 a.m. at the Pleasant View Mennonite Church, Dayton, Va.

Neil's nephews will serve as pallbearers and he will be laid to rest in the adjoining church cemetery.

McMullen Funeral Home in Harrisonburg, Va., is serving the family.
