Obituary - Messenger News, Fort Dodge, Iowa, November 14, 2013:
Memorial Services for Lyle L. Hungate, 92, of Evanston, will be November 16th at 11:00 a.m. at Otho-Kalo Church in Otho, Iowa, with the Rev. Greg Bratland Jr. officiating. Burial will be in the Washington Township ?Cemetery in Duncombe at 2:00 p.m. Military Honors will be provided by the Duncombe American Legion Post 491 and the Iowa Army National Guard. Lyle died Monday, Nov. 4th at the Stratford Rehab and Nursing Center in Stratford.
Lyle was born December 3, 1920 in Yetter, Iowa to William and Hazel (Derby) Hungate. He graduated from Lakeview-Auburn High School in 1938. He served in the United Sates Army in the Philippines during Word War II. He was united in marriage to Dorothy Higgins on July 10, 1948 in Fort Dodge. He was employed at United States Gypsum for 38 years. In his younger years he enjoyed gardening, fishing, and playing cards. He especially enjoyed spending time with family.
On November 4, 2013 he died at the Stratford Nursing Home and Rehab Center. Lyle is survived by his children: (three sons).....seven grandchildren and two great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, three brothers, Dean, Don, and Bob Hungate, sister Pauline Gerdes, and wife Dorothy.
