Obituary for Ralph Hunter
Ralph “PJ” Hunter was born on November 16, 1948 in Greenville, Georgia to the late Edward and Maggie Lou Hunter.

Ralph attended Lincoln Heights High School where he was very active in sports. After graduating, he worked for Zayre Corporation and Sterns and Forster Company. In 1967, Ralph married his high school sweetheart, Theoata Williams. From this marriage, two children were born: Terrill Dwayne and Latrice Mondelle.

In 1971, Ralph was offered a full scholarship to attend Virginia Union University to play basketball. He accepted and the family moved to Richmond, Virginia.

Because of his outstanding performance, he was offered a tryout for the Harlem Globe Trotters in Oklahoma. His dedication to the sport led him into the Virginia Union University Basketball Hall of Fame in 2011, where his jersey #35 was retired.

After college, he was employed by the Common Wealth of Virginia Department of Corrections Facilities as a Correction Officer for Powhatan Correctional Center, where he retired in 2002.

Ralph was preceded in death by his parents, Edward and Maggie Hunter; brothers, Lewis and Jerome Hunter; and sister, Brenda Hunter. Ralph leaves to cherish his memories: his wife, Theoata D. Hunter; his children, Terrill and Latrice (Brian); seven grandchildren, Ricky, Terrill Jr., Tyra, Zion, Terriaha, Brian Jr. and Brianna; two great-grand-children, Amauri and Amiyah; his siblings, Willie Frank of Atlanta, Georgia, Randolph (Debbie), Render (Lauretta), Sandra Summerlin, Dorron (Nikki) and Stanley; brother-in-law, Leroy Williams, Jr. (Elaine); sister-in-law, Rochelle Will-iams, all of Cincinnati, Ohio; a host of nieces, nephews, relatives and friends. Ralph also had two special people in Virginia who were the “true” meaning of “friends”. Danny Jackson and Daisy Hardy both looked out for him on a daily basis during his illness and were there by his side until the end.
