Pilot Officer / Wireless Operator - Air Gunner.

A drug store attendant and clerk by trade, Richard enlisted in the RCAF on Mar 3, 1941 in Winnipeg, Manitoba.

He was a crew member on Supermarine Stranraer #927 aircraft (a 'flying boat') which was on an operational patrol when a water landing was attempted. The other members of the crew were:
Flight Lieutenant Donald Clark MacDougall
Aircraftman 1st Class Robert Albert Blakely
Aircraftman 1st Class Robert William Adams
Leading Aircraftman William Dennis Riley
Sergeant Russell Tremaine Mitchell
Sergeant John Cunningham Gunn
Sergeant Gordon Herbert Andrews

Son of Mary (nee Anderson) Wood of St. Vital, Manitoba, and the late Richard Wood; husband of Patricia Wood of Norwood, Manitoba.
