He was preceded in death by sisters Virginia and Margret, and brothers Jim, Jack and Bob.
He retired from Detroit Diesel Allison in Indianapolis after 32 years of service. He served 4 years in the US Navy and was a veteran of the Korean War. He was a member of the American Legion. He was an avid outdoorsman.
