Services for Jseph Syney Wheless, 77, of San Antonio, were held July 13 in St. Peter's Episcopal Church with interment in Garden of Memories. Arrangements were under the direction of Porter Loring Mortuary of San Antonio. He died July 9, in a San Antonio hospital after a long illness.
Born Sept. 23, 1904 in Beaumont, he was an independent oilman and was active in the petroleum industry all of his adult life as well as in real estate and investments.
He resided much of his childhood and later years in Kerrville, Mountain Home and Hunt and also resided in San Antonio. He was well known for his hobbies of hunting and fishing.
He enlisted in the U.S. Army Air Corps at the beginning of World War II and was honorably discharged as a major.
Survivors include his wife, Mary Luckenbach Wheless; two daughters, Barbara Jean Altgelt of San Antonio and Bertha Trotter of Houston; a step-son, Daniel D. McWhirter of San Antonio; a brother, Randolph F. Wheless of Houston; six grandchildren; three great grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews.
