Karen D. Lange, 70, of 3218 Chautauqua Ave., Ashville, N.Y., passed away at 2:50 a.m. Saturday, Dec. 21, 2013, in the Heritage Park Rehab and Skilled Nursing Facility.
A lifelong area resident, she was born Jan. 20, 1943, in Jamestown, N.Y., the daughter of the late Leonard and Gertrude Hellman Dahlberg.
Karen was a 1961 graduate of Jamestown High School and earned her Bachelor of Science degree in education from the State University of New York at Fredonia.
Before her retirement in 2007, she was employed by the Jamestown Public School system as an elementary school teacher at Fletcher School. In earlier years, she had taught school in Virginia for several years.
She will be remembered as one who loved to spend time with her family. She enjoyed fishing, boating, sailing and laying on the beach in Florida. She also loved to travel and go deep sea fishing.
Surviving are her husband, James F. Lange, whom she married June 28, 1980; a daughter, Cheryl M. Weller of Jamestown; three sons: Andrew P. (Josie) Monfort and Jay L. Monfort, both of Jamestown, and Patrick A. Monfort of Buffalo, N.Y.; two stepchildren: Stephen Lange of Sugar Grove, Pa., and Jacquelyn Sheeley of Smethport, Pa.; 10 grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; and a nephew, Leonard Dahlberg of Lakewood, Colo.
Besides her parents, she was preceded in death by a brother, Paul Dahlberg, who died in 2005.
A private service will be held at the convenience of the family. Visitation will not be observed.
Inurnment will be in the Sunset Hill Cemetery.
