Mr. John Raymond Young, Sr., age 84, of Turner, Michigan, (formerly of Hilliard, FL) passed away Monday morning (2/20/23) at his residence.

Born December 8, 1938 in Essexville, Michigan, he was a son of the late John Robert and Nina Hutchison Young. He had lived many years in Jacksonville before moving to Hilliard in 1999. After the passing of his wife in 2020, he moved to Turner, Michigan.

He retired from the United States Navy and Maxwell House Coffee, and was a volunteer fireman for many years. He had enjoyed coaching tee ball, loved gardening and tending to his house plants, and was a huge "shopaholic". He was also an avid Georgia Bulldogs fan, loved his grandkids and great grandchildren who affectionately called him "Papa" and "Old Papa".

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Quincy Charlotte Young; 4 brothers, and 2 sisters.

Survivors include his daughter, Jeanette Watt (husband Tom) of Jacksonville, FL; son, J.R. Young (wife Maureen) of St. Augustine, FL; 8 grandchildren; 13 great grandchildren; and several other relatives in Florida and Michigan.

A funeral service will take place on Friday (3/3/23) at 11 a.m. at Buford Grove Baptist Church in Hilliard, Florida. Mr. Young will lie in state at the church one hour prior to the service.

Burial will follow at Waters Cemetery in Blackshear on Friday at 3.p.m. with military honors.

The family will receive friends on Thursday evening at the funeral home from 5-7 p.m.
