Jazz Musician. His musical interests can be traced back to his early childhood. His mother was a pianist in a cinema which ran silent movies. He was given an alto saxophone at the age of eight from a family friend and by the age of ten, he moved on to the clarinet. Influenced by Benny Carter, he focused on pursuing a career as a musician and experienced his break, when he became a member of Joe Venuti's orchestra in 1946. After marrying pianist Lorraine Walsh, he joined the ensemble of Billy May and became a practitioner of the "West Coast" sound, as his technique of improvisation became widely known. In 1953, he contributed his musical talents to the Marlon Brando film "The Wild Ones". Under the Emarcy record label, Geller recorded a number of albums among them "The Gellers" (1955) with Lorraine. In 1958 at the age of thirty, Lorraine died suddenly from pulmonary edema. Geller was deeply saddened by Lorraine's death which led to his relocation to Europe. He settled in Germany where he became a prominent international figure. He resumed his recording and was a highly sought after session musician as he worked with Benny Goodman, Dinah Washington, Louie Bellson, Quincy Jones, Chet Baker and Max Roach among many others. He died of complications from pneumonia while being treated for lymphoma.
