Professional Football Player. For six seasons (1953 and 1956 to 1960), he played at the defensive back and end positions in the National Football League with the Pittsburgh Steelers, Washington Redskins and Baltimore Colts. Born Arthur Anthony DeCarlo, he attended East High School and received a scholarship to play collegiate football at the University of Georgia. While with the Bulldogs, he earned All-SEC honors. Selected by the Chicago Bears during the 6th round of the 1953 NFL Draft, he ended up with the Steelers and went on to play in 61 regular season games. His impact on the league was immediate, as he yielded 5 interceptions during his rookie season (1953). His career was interrupted for two years, while he served with the United States Army. He experienced two world championships with the 1958 and 1959 NFL Champion Colts' squads. The 1958 NFL Title Game between the Colts and New York Giants is referred to as "The Greatest Game Ever Played". After retiring from football, he served as a football coach and high school math teacher in Baltimore. Additionally, he operated a miniature golf business. He died of complications from dementia.
