Son of John Henry Plasschaert. Immigrated from Belgium to the United States on July 16 1881. Married Estelle E Tomange (1857-1935)in 1884. Father of Pelagie Judith (Doan)(1885-1967), Henrietta Estelle (Zieber)(Jayes)(1889-1974), and Camille Mariam (Gruppe)(1892-1975).
Very talented and highly regarded sculptor who resided primarily in Philadelphia, PA. He taught modeling at the Univ. of Pennsylvania from c.1892-97 and was head of the Decorative Sculpture Dept. at the School run by the Philadelphia Museum of Art 1891-97. He is listed as Professor of Sculpture at the Pennsylvania Museum of Arts, School of Industrial Arts, Philadelphia, PA in the museums annual in 1894.
Worked for the Boston Terra Cotta company in Boston,MA and later for Stephens, Leach and Conklin Co of Philadelphia, PA.
His works include the terra cotta frieze at the Barnum Museum in Bridgeport,CT, The German-American Shooting Club on St. Marks St in NYC and the former Colonial Theater in Hagerstown,MD. He was know for being one of the few terra cotta sculptors to sign his work.
