Robert served as a Second Lieutenant, 5th Fighter Squadron, 52nd Fighter Group, U.S. Army Air Force during World War II.

He resided in Penobscot County, Maine prior to the war.

Robert was declared "Missing In Action" off the coast of Italy during the war. He was awarded the Air Medal with 4 Oak Leaf Clusters and the Purple Heart.

He also has a "Cenotaph" in the Florence American Cemetery, Florence, Italy.
