William "Bill" Cordes was born to Claus and Andrea Cordes. He graduated from high school in 1951 from Mount Pleasant High School in Mount Pleasant, Iowa, and continued his education at Arizona State College, now Arizona State University of Temple, AZ. He graduated with a Bachelor of Science degree in physical education He married Marilyn Olson on Dec 27, 1952. After serving in the U.S. Marine Corps, he began his career of coaching and counseling at the Bureau of Indian Affairs in Phoenix, AZ, transferring to Stewart, NV in 1963, the coming to Elko in 1978. After retiring as an administrator from the Bureau of Idian Affairs, he was a real estate broker in Elko. In 1995 he and his wife moved to Iowa, then traveled in their motor home for several years. They decided to settle for the winter months in North Ranch which is near Wickenburg, AZ. He enjoyed the open road, golfing, gardening in Iowa and puttering in his workshop. Bill is survived by his wife, Marilyn; daughters, Sandy (Jim) Moore and Cynthia (Barry) Giles; and grandchildren, Rebecca Cordes, Justin Vaughn, Daniel Moore, Jasmine Giles and Timothy Moore.
