Raymond Dewitt Ashley was born May 20, 1922 to Clinton Commodore and Joe (Groom) Ashley in Newby, Oklahoma. He departed this life Saturday, December 21, 2013 at the age of 91 years, 6 months, and 29 days.

Raymond attended Newby Public Schools. On April 11, 1945 Effie "Pat" Shehi and Raymond Dewitt Ashley were united in marriage. To this union were born four children.

They enjoyed 58 years together before her passing July 3, 2003. Raymond later enlisted in the United States Air Force where he served during World War II. He moved to Carlsbad, New Mexico in 1946 where he worked as a Pot Ash Miner until his retirement in 1966. After moving back to Bristow in 1967, he worked for the City of Bristow street department; he then transferred to the Bristow Fire Department where he was a fireman for a number of years until his final retirement.

He attended the First Free Will Baptist Church and was a member of the American Legion. He enjoyed singing, playing the guitar and harmonica, and growing fruit trees. He delivered meals on wheels, and also volunteered taking friends to Tulsa for doctor's visits and dialysis. He will be missed by all who knew him.

He was preceded in death by his parents, wife, one son, Raymond Clinton Ashley and wife Caryl Ashley, one daughter, JoAnne Dobrinski, two brothers, J.B. Ashley and George Ashley, and one sister, Pauline Root, one great granddaughter, Danielle Ashley.

Funeral services are scheduled for Friday, December 27, 2013 2:00PM, at the Bristow First Free Will Baptist Church with Reverend Gene Jackson. Interment will follow at the Bristow City Cemetery. (Hutchins Maples)
