Son of Peter & Jane V. Tackett Goolrick; younger brother of Captain Charles Tackett Goolrick of the 55th Va. Infantry, formerly also of the Fredericksburg Light Artillery, and of Lt. Robert Emmet Goolrick of the 55th Virginia Infantry.
He married Frances Bernard White, daughter of Chester Bailey White, direct descendant of George Mason of Gunston Hall, main composer of the "Bill Of Rights".

He was Surrendered on 4/9/1865 at Appomattox Court House,
VA.

Postwar he returned to Fredericksburg, Va.; lived at 907 Charles Street, later on Washington Avenue near Hawke. Attorney; Judge of Corporation Court Of The City Of Fredericksburg, located at offices 4-5 in the Bradford Bldg; Commonwealth Attorney; member of Fredericksburg Masonic Consistory, No. 8 (2d L. C.); married Frances Bernard at St. George's Episcopal Church in Fredericksburg, June 5, 1872.
Wrote Historic Fredericksburg: The Story Of An Old Town", one of the 2 definitive books written about the history of Fredericksburg.

The Fredericksburg Artillery organized in its namesake city on January 19, 1861. It fought in twenty-four engagements, including every major battle of the Army of Northern Virginia beginning with the Seven Days.
