She was born in February 1876 as Jantje de Jong in the village Wierum on the North Sea coast, in the former municipality Westdongeradeel, in the utter northeastern part of the Dutch northern province Friesland, daughter of the 35 years aged truck farmer (gardenier) David Kornelis de Jong and Tjitske Jans Westerhof, 30 years old.

Jantje de Jong married on 11 May 1899 in the municipality Westdongeradeel, province Friesland, Netherlands at the age of 23 years to the one year younger Remmeren de Jong, born in Wierum too.

Jantje and Remmeren de Jong had the following four sons:
* David [Cornel], 1901 Blija, Ferwerderadeel, Friesland - 1967 Providence, Rhode Island;
* Remmeren "Raymond", 1902 Blija - 1982 Grandville, Kent County, Michigan;
* Meindert, 1906 Wierum - 1991 Allegan, Michigan;
* Cornelis David "Neil", 1911 Wierum - 2008 Ada, Kent County, Michigan.

The Christian Reformed family De Jong emigrated on 16 May 1914 from Wierum, Friesland, Netherlands to Grand Rapids, Kent County, Michigan, United States. They arrived on 2 June 1914 on the SS Nieuw Amsterdam at the port of New York, Ellis Island. In Grand Rapids they lived successively in four houses in the vicinity of Wealthy Street and Diamond Avenue. The De Jongs joined the nearby Dennis Avenue Christian Reformed Church and found their lack of being able to speak English of little inconvenience in the Dutch speaking neighborhoods of Grand Rapids; in fact Jantje never learned to speak English.

In 1920 Jantje (43 y), her husband Remnen Deyoung (43), their four sons David (18), Remnen (17), Meindert (13) and Corniel (9) lived in Ward 2 of Grand Rapids, Kent County, in the western part of Michigan.

In 1930 Jennie (54), her husband Raymond De Jong (53), their sons Meinard (24) and Corniel (19) lived in Walker, a northwestern suburb of Grand Rapids, Kent County, in the western part of Michigan.

In April 1940 Jennie (64), her husband Raymond De Jong (63, bricklayer and carpainter) and her sister Jessie Steamstra (71, Netherlands, widow) lived at a rented home at Benefit Street in Ward 3 of Grand Rapids, Kent County, Michigan. The couple De Jong lived on 1 April 1935 at the same place, Jessie Steamstra in Friesland, Wisconsin.

Jantje alias Jennie died in 1953 at the age of about 77 years, very probably in or around Grand Rapids, Kent County, Michigan. Her widower Remmeren alias Raymond De Jong had in 1961 and 1963 strokes and died about 26 August 1967 at the age of 91 years, also very probably in Grand Rapids or surroundings.
