Leo F. Wolter, 86, Greensburg, passed away on Saturday, December 21, 2013 at the Decatur County Memorial Hospital in Greensburg.
Born, September 9, 1927 in Decatur County, Indiana, he was the son of Henry B. and Elizabeth (Messerschmidt) Wolter.
Leo graduated from Greensburg High School in 1945. He was a farmer. He was a Veteran of the Korean War serving in the Army as an MP.
He was a member of the St. Mary's Catholic Church where he had served on the parish council. He was a 66 year member of the Knights of St. John. He received the Indiana Grand Commandery Knight of the year award in 1991. Leo served on the Greensburg Community School Board for 24 years and was President of the board several times. He served on the board of Farm Bureau, Inc. of Washington Township and served a term as President. He served on the Decatur County Fair Board, the Decatur County Extension Board and was a 4-H Leader.
Leo loved farming and fishing. He loved to watch sports, especially basketball and baseball. He was a loving husband, father, grandfather and great grandfather. He enjoyed spending time and playing with his grandchildren.
He was married to Marie C. Blankman on August 31, 1955 at St. Mary's Catholic Church and she survives.
He is also survived by two sons, Norm (Nancy) Wolter, Greensburg, Mark (Sandi) Wolter, Greensburg; three daughters, Linda (Brian) Meek, Naperville, IL, Nancy (Chris) Moore, Chicago, IL, Karen Mirick, Greensburg; one daughter-in-law, Karen Wolter, Greensburg; one brother, Charles Wolter, Greensburg; one sister, Isabella Schoettmer, Greensburg; 13 grandchildren, 5 great grandchildren, 5 step great grandchildren, 7 step great great grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents; one son, Gary Wolter; four brothers, Lawrence Wolter, Justin Paul Wolter, Robert Wolter and Leander Wolter whom died in infancy.
Visitation will be from 4-8:00 p.m. Thursday at the Porter-Oliger-Pearson Funeral Home in Greensburg. A public rosary will be prayed at 3:30 p.m. on Thursday at the funeral home.
Funeral Services will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Friday, December 27, 2013 at the St. Mary's Catholic Church in Greensburg with Rev. John Meyer officiating.
Interment with full military services will be held in the St. Mary's Catholic Cemetery in Greensburg, Indiana.
Memorials may be made to the St. Mary's Church, the St. Mary's School or to the St. Anthony Haiti Ministry.
