Ruth Helen Mayer, 91, of Overland Park, Kan., passed away Monday, December 16, 2013, at Village Shalom. Private family services were held at Rose Hill Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, the family requests contributions to the Harold B. Brown Scholarship Fund at The National Council of Jewish Women, Children's Mercy Hospital or a charity of one's choice . Ruth was born Jan. 30, 1922, in St. Louis, Mo., the daughter of Jack and Lillian (Baskowitz) Moskow. She was preceded in death by her parents; her first husband, Harold B. Brown in 1974; her second husband, Bernard J. Mayer in 1999; her brothers-in-law, Elliot Emerson, Sam Brown, Milton Brown and Maynard Brown. Ruth is survived by her son: Steven R. Brown; her daughter and son-in- law: Barbara A. and Richard Novorr; her sister and brother-in-law: Marjorie and Norman Paulson; sisters-in- law: Virginia Brown and Gloria Brown; grandchildren: Jeff and Barb Novorr; Scott and Jennifer Novorr; Craig and Alyson Novorr; Kyle and Lindsey Mayer; great-grandchildren: Ben, Jon, Jack, Sophie, Tate, Lilah, Tyler, Nick, Ava and Elle Novorr; also surviving are nieces, nephews, step- daughter-in-law: Carol Meyers; step- son: Robert Mayer and his wife Shari. Ruth was blessed with very caring caregivers: Tara, Kayla, Alex and Angela along with Gretchen at St. Luke's Hospice and the dedicated nurses, aides and staff at Village Shalom and a very special thanks to Rabbi Mark Levin.
