POIRIER, Michael Paul

January 14, 1947 – Surrey, England
December 17, 2013 – Penticton, BC

Michael Paul Poirier passed away Tuesday December 17, 2013 after a brief and courageous battle with liver cancer. He leaves to mourn his partner of many years, Louise Robinson, his sons Kyle Paul Poirier (Kimberley) and Matthew Anders Poirier, their mother Cheryl; grandson, Gavin Paul Poirier and granddaughter Emily Michelle; his brother, Raymond Anthony Poirier; sister Vicki (Michael) Poirier-Wei, niece, Nicole and Louise's children, Jennifer and Brett. Mike worked in the newspaper industry for 44 years; first at the Winnipeg Tribune and then at the Calgary Herald from 1980 until his retirement in 2009. For many years he was the Group Classified Sales Manager over several categories, and as such, was well known and had many friends in the Calgary Motor Dealer Association, the Calgary Home Builders Association, personnel agencies, and funeral homes. Mike spent many years volunteering as a soccer coach and manager for his boy's teams and most recently volunteered as a Barista at the Cafe in Penticton Regional Hospital. He was a very creative, positive, fun loving person who enjoyed a good joke, just not at his expense. His proudest achievements as everyone knew, were his two sons and his grandchildren. Louise and Mike have had many wonderful trips but where Mike especially loved was their home in the Arizona desert. He so enjoyed tending his cactus garden and entertaining friends and family. Mike was genuinely loved and respected by so many and will be greatly missed.

A Celebration of Mike's life will be held at McINNIS & HOLLOWAY'S Park Memorial Chapel (5008 Elbow Drive S.W., Calgary, AB) on Monday December 30, 2013 at 2:00 p.m. Condolences may be forwarded through www.mcinnisandholloway.com.
