Served in U.S. Army and Army Air Corps, enlisted in Army in 1931. Re-enlisted into Army Air Corps in 1936, and again on April 01, 1940. Served during WWII, served in Philippines, and Panama Canal, and as an aircraft armorer and aerial gunnery instructor. Trained Clark Gable to shoot. SC State Skeet Shooting Champion in late 1940s, 3rd in National Championship.
