Mary Alice Baker was born near Prairie City, Illinois, February 18, 1864, the fifth child of Penile W. Baker and Mary Chaney Baker.
Three years later the family moved to Clinton county, Iowa, where they remained until 1880 when they moved to Denison, Iowa. Miss Baker taught school in the vicinity for two years and continued her residence in Denison for three years. On March 20, 1883, she was married to Marshall L. Jones. The couple took up their residence near Charter Oak in which vicinity they lived since.
One son, Henry Asa Jones, was born to the couple on January 8, 1884.
Mrs. Jones was a member of long standing of the Methodist church, a member of the Live Oak chapter of the Order of Eastern Star, and of the Pleasant Oak Rebekah Lodge.
Mrs. Jones passed away at her home in Charter Oak on the morning of July 17, 1934, following a lingering illness. She is survived by her husband, Marshall L. Jones; her son, Henry Asa Jones; his wife; two grandsons, Charles Jones of Charter Oak and Marshall Jones of Des Moines; three brothers, Philip Bartlett Baker of Hamill, South Dakota, John William Baker of Los Angeles, California, and Penile Washington Baker of Seattle, Washington; and one sister, Mrs. August Moeller of Lake View, Iowa.
Interment was made at Charter Oak July 19, 1934.
