Born in Southampton, the son of Zeno & Audula (Babcock) Coleman.

He was a carpenter and joiner by trade.

Perry enlisted & mustered in to serve during the civil war on 21 June 1861 at a recruiting station in his native Southampton. Company C. 10th Massachusetts Vol. Inf.

He was killed during The Battle of Seven Pines (also called The Battle of Fair Oaks) on the first day, 31 May 1862. He was 22.

His body was first buried on the battlefield, but was later recovered and brought to Southampton for final burial (Death Rec.)
