Lawrence served as a Sergeant on B-17F "Dixie Flyer" #42-5112, 543rd Bomber Squadron, 383rd Bomber Group, U.S. Army Air Force during World War II.

He resided in Caledonia County, Vermont prior to the war.

He enlisted in the Army Air Corps on October 6, 1942 in Rutland, Vermont. He was noted, at the time of his enlistment, as being employed as a Farmer and also as Single, without dependents.

Lawrence died in the "Line Of Duty" when his B-17 crashed during training at the North Bombing Range, South Dakota during the war.
