Mark Allen Oliver I of Sturgis passed away unexpectedly of natural causes at the age of 52, on Tuesday, Dec. 17, 2013.
He was born April 12, 1961, in Chicago Heights, Ill., son of Joe and Patricia (Caruso) Oliver. Mark had resided in Sturgis since 1987. He grew up in Illinois.
On Nov. 27, 1991, he married Tammy Sue Chiddister.
Mark owned and operated 21st Century Home Service in Sturgis. He and Tammy had recently purchased a local building in Sturgis with plans of realizing his lifelong dream of owning and operating a restaurant. Mark was an exemplary hard-worker, striving to only give his best. Mark enjoyed being with his family, traveling, supporting all those around him and bringing people joy through the food he so lovingly prepared.
He is survived by his loving wife of 22 years; his son, Matthew Oliver, a student at Michigan State University, and his son and granddaughter, Mark (Anna) Oliver II and Elliott Clare Oliver of Fitzgerald, Ga.; mother and stepfather, Patricia and Richard Rodriguez of Bronson; two brothers, Richard Rodriguez and James Clements, both of Bronson; two sisters, Cindy Miller and Toni Swope, both of Sturgis; and several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his father; and a brother and sister, Arnold Clements and Patricia Barkby.
The family will receive friends from 5-8 p.m. Friday at Hackman Family Funeral Homes — Rosenberg Chapel, 807 E. Chicago Road, Sturgis.
Funeral services celebrating the life of Mark Oliver will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday at Trinity Lutheran Church in Sturgis. The Rev. Calvin Kolzow will conduct the ceremony. A graveside committal will follow the service at Oak Lawn Cemetery in Sturgis.
