James "Jim" L. Ludwick, "World Famous Driller," 72, of Farmington, passed away at his home Sunday, Oct. 23, 2005, in Farmington. He was born June 23, 1933, in Kismet, Kan.
Jim moved to Farmington during the oil field boom in the '50s. He became an independent contractor and owner of L & B Speed Drill, Inc. He drilled many of the shallow gas wells in Farmington and the San Juan Basin. He retired from the gas and oil business at age 70. His body wouldn't let him work anymore, but his heart still wanted to.
Jim was preceded in death by his parents, Charles and Bernice; brother, David Ludwick; and sister, Lillian Strahan.
He is survived by his wife, Ester, of Farmington; daughter, Tami McCray Thorknock and husband, Mark; son, Kelley Ludwick; and five grandchildren. Also surviving are brothers, John of Kansas, Paul of Oklahoma, and Tom of Montana.
Services will be at 10 a.m. Saturday, Oct. 29, at Brewer, Lee & Larkin Chapel. Interment will follow at Kirtland-Fruitland Cemetery.
Pallbearers will be Paul Thompson, James Hellekson, Roldofo Baylon, Brad Salzman, Al Nicks, Raymond Frye, John Begg and Don McKinley.
Honorary pallbearers will be Pat Kiley, Richard Wessler, Myra Maxwell, Martha Gallaway and Roberta Schmidt.
