Ridgecrest, CA resident Harold (Benny) Parsons passed away at his home in the early morning hours of December 12, 2013, surrounded by his loved ones. son of Harold Parsons and Audrey Pryor, he was born on 9 Nov 1951 in Ironton, OH. At a young age, he, his mother, and his little brother Barry moved from Ironton to Ridgecrest.
Growing up in Ridgecrest, Benny told stories of hard times and childhood mischief. It wasn't until his mother met and married a man named Shelby King who changed his life for the good.
With Shelby's guidance and his mother's love, Benny joined the Marine Corps at seventeen years old. It was in the Marine Corps where he found the love of his life...thing that go boom. During his three years with the Marine Corps, Benny became an Ammunition Technician and did a tour of duty in Vietnam.
When he returned home he married his first wife, Patricia Turnbow, and had two boys, Shelby (Steven) and Kevin. When he got out of the Marine Corps, Benny got a job with China Lake, CA as a truck driver for the ammunition magazines.
He divorced Patricia and married his second wife Barbara King. Together they had a daughter named Katie Fae. Benny worked and moved his way up through the ranks at China Lake. He was involved with explosives safety and was also a firing officer. He was influential in the development of modern initiation systems. Benny volunteered his spare time to the Kern County Sheriff's Office as a Reserve Deputy and as a member of the Indian Wells Valley Search and Rescue.
Benny divorced Babara and retired from china Lake and the Sheriff's Office. He then married his third wife, Bonnie Mullins. Benny and Bonnie loved to travel an explore new places. They were together seventeen years and she stayed by his side through his difficult battle with cancer.
Benny was known for his sense of humor and quick wit. He loved going fast and he didn't care on what type of vehicle. He was an avid dirt bike rider and oval track racer. He loved projects and always had a new one brewing.
Benny was a devoted family man and friend to many. He will be terribly missed by all of the lives he has touched.
He is preceded in death by his father Harold Parsons and his son Shelby (Steven) Parsons.
He is survived by his wife Bonnie Parsons, mother and step-father Audrey (Cookie) and Terry Pryor, brother and sister-in-law Barry and Beverly, son and daughter-in-law Kevin and Kassie Parsons, daughter and son-in-law Katie and Michael Atkins, step-daughters Bobbie Hansen and her husband Ricky and Billie Dyer and companion Ronnie Ladd, son-in-law Daniel Dyer and wife Michelle and twenty grandchildren.
