Memorial for Dora Dau. Mrs. Dora Dau a longtime resident of the Sutherland, Calumet area passed away Wednesday, Dec. 29,1976 and the Baum Harmon hospital in Primghar. Services were held in her memory and 1:30 PM Friday, December 31 at the Zion United Church of Christ Calumet, Iowa. Rev. John Saxton was the officiating clergymen. Mrs. Clarence Hibbing was the organist and Mrs. Donald Ebel was soloists. Bearers were Robert Rohlfsen, Dennis Dau, Dan Breitbarth, Roger Dau, Darwin Dau, and Mark Rehder. Mrs. Edward Gerstandt and Mrs. Richard Edwards were in charge of the floral attributes. Committal was in the Waterman Cemetery to the Sutherland, Iowa. Dora Wilhelmina Anna Dau, the daughter of Ernest and Margaretha Hocke Horstmann, was born July 8, 1891, at Ohlendorf, Germany. She came to America as a young girl with her parents to O'Brien County, Iowa. She was baptized in Germany and confirmed in the church at Calumet. She attended the rural schools in Liberty Township. She was uniting married at her parent's house on Dec. 30, 1910, to George Dau. They farmed for many years before moving into Sutherland in 1947. She was a member of the Zion United Church of Christ that Calumet, active in many church groups in various clubs in the community. She passed away at the Baum Harmon hospital in Primghar, Iowa on Dec. 29, 1976 and the age of 85. Preceding her in death were her parents, her husband in 1973, an infant son Elmer and one daughter, Francis. Left to cherish her memory are her three daughters in their husbands, Mrs. Harry Laura Rohlfsen, Mrs. Leonard Lois Breitbarth and Mrs. Dalton Florence Rehder all of Paullina and three sons in their wives, Delbert and Vera, Harold and Velma, and Raymond and Marilyn all of Sutherland, 22 grandchildren, 26 great-grandchildren in many other relatives and friends.
