Son of Grover Cleveland Clanton and Frances Maude Holcombe, he was killed in a tornado that struck the area; married Robbie B. Williams 4 July 1936 in Bradley County, Arkansas.

Ellis Thomas Clanton, age 61, husband of Mrs. Robbie Williams Clanton of Warren, died Friday, March 28, in the tornado. He was born May 10, 1913 at Vick, a son of the late Grover Cleveland and Frances Maud Holcombe Clanton. He was an assistant supervisor with the Bradley Division of the Potlach Corporation, a member, Deacon, and Sunday School Teacher at the Central Baptist Church in Warren, and a Mason, Warren Lodge No. 33.
Other survivors include one daughter, Mrs. Carolyn Lathan of Warren; three brothers: Tyson Clanton of Blytheville, Dan Clanton of Houston, Texas, and Morrell Clanton of Warren; one sister, Mrs. Martha Jones of Camden; and one grandson, Carroll Wayne Lathan.
Funeral was 2:00 p.m. Tuesday, April 1 at Frazer's Chapel of the Chimes with Rev. Jerry Carter and Rev. Gladney Phillips officiating. Organist was Mrs Janice Sullivan. Soloist was Bill Brown.
Active pallbearers were Bobby Russell, Gerald Clanton, Billy Mack White, Charles White, Jimmy Wayne Lyon, Ronald Lyon, Stacy Clanton, and Raymer Clanton.
Honorary pallbearers were Orris Campbell, Lewis Brown, Charles Greenwood, John Carter Ray Doss, Charles Simpson, Charles Doss, N. I. Smith, Roy Sheridan, Jimmy Poole, Royce Poole, Bernie C. Halley, Grice McClellan, and Roy Cochran.
