Mary Vance Hill, one of Munford's oldest citizens, died surrounded by family at her residence on Thursday, December 12, 2013, at the age of 101. The family will receive friends from 12 p.m. until service at 2 p.m., Sunday, December 15 at Munford Funerall Home, Munford Chapel. Interment will be in Helen Crigger Cemetery. She was born on November 23, 1912 to Edith Delashmit Fite and James V. Fite. Mary Vance attended school at Egypt and Brighton High Schools. She worked as a Line supervisor at Dupont Powder Plant during WWII. Later, she worked as a sales clerk at Ellis grocery, and for her brother, Walker Boyd Fite at the Weona Store in Munford. She was a community correspondent for The Covington Leader and The Millington Star. Mary Vance was a life-long member of Munford First United Methodist Church. To commemorate her 100th birthday last year, over 150 guests attended a celebration at the church, where she was presented a "Golden Key to the City" by Munford Mayor Dwayne Cole. Two proclamations, one from the state of Tennessee, and the other from Tipton County, were presented by Commissioner Bob Wilson. Mrs. Hill was predeceased by her husband, Addison Hill and siblings, Larry, Walter, Robert, Bill, Russell, Earl and Pat Fite and Kate Banks. She is survived by daughters, Guelda (Dan) Harrison of Munford, Joyce Cornelius of Lynchburg, Virginia, and Shirley (Ace) Williams of Memphis; grandchildren, Amy (Kenneth) Turnage and Emily (John) Clark of Munford, Ellen (Peyton) Morgan of Lynchburg, Virginia, Mark Cornelius of Virginia Beach, Virginia, Terry (Kent) Webb of Chattanooga, Dana (Paul) Nance of Knoxville and Tracy Harris of Memphis; great and great-great-grandchildren residing locally, Melissa (Richard) Baugh, Haley and Garrett, Brian (Jennifer) Turnage, Bricen and Briggs. She is also survived by brother, Walker Boyd Fite, and sister, Wilma France of Munford. The family especially appreciates caregivers, Sandra Gunn, Ann Morgan, Donna Bridges, Myra Millican, and Sissy Ayers. Memorials may be made to Munford First United Methodist Church.
