Artice, 84, of Dimondale, died Monday. She was born to Peter and Gertrude (Lippert) Sherrick.

She was a member of the Civil Air Patrol (auxiliary to the United States Air Force) for 5 years from 1955-1960. She rejoined in 1979 retiring in 2001 as Lt. Colonel and earned her private pilot's license in 1983.

After leaving Everett High School in 1943, she entered the Adult Education program in 1960, going to school all day and 4 nights a week, graduating with honors from Sexton High School in 1961. She was the first person to graduate from Adult Education Program in a college prep course. She briefly attended MSU and LCC.

She operated the Val-Valle Kennels, Reg., raising Shetland Sheepdogs, German Shorthaired pointers and Belgian Sheepdogs for 35 years. She exhibited and produced champions in all three breeds; taught dog obedience training for 32 years; and owned and operated Artie's Pet Salon for 13 years. She professionally groomed dogs for 24 years retiring in 1997.

She also co-owned and operated with her husband Artie's Photographers for 20 years. She joined the Ingham County Kennel Club in 1949 and was a managing sponsor of Leash and Collar Junior Kennel Club for 25 years. The balance of their treasury fund was used to start the MSU Pure-Bred Dog Development Fund when the club disbanded.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her beloved husband of 50 years Frank; and son, Christopher.

Surviving are daughter, Roberta (Charles) Edmonds; son, Joseph Mainville; brother, Edward (Cathy) Breier; sister, Dawn (Brad) White; and many grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews.

A funeral mass was held on Friday, September 2, 2011 at St. Casimir Catholic Church, Lansing, MI with the Rev. Bill Lugger officiating. A Rosary was prayed.

In lieu of flowers, those desiring may make contributions to the MSU College of Veterinary Medicine, Purebred Dog Development Fund, East Lansing, MI.
