Hazel R. Owen Dahms, age 99, passed away peacefully Sunday, December 15, 2013 at Butterfield Trail Village Health Care Center in Fayetteville, Arkansas.
She was born December 1, 1914 on a farm near Cornerville, (Lincoln County), Arkansas to the late Charles H. and Claudia V. (Parker) Owen.

She graduated from Monticello A & M High School in 1933 and Monticello A & M College in 1935. She received her master's degree in home economics with emphasis in textiles and clothing from the University of Tennessee at Knoxville in 1937. She taught home economics at Hamburg High School for two years and then began work as a Home Demonstration Agent for the University of Arkansas Cooperative Extension Service serving in Yell, Desha and Cleveland Counties. In 1947 she moved to Chicago, Illinois to work for Sears Roebuck and Company in home furnishings and appliance testing. In 1952 she moved to New York City to work for the Ladies Home Journal as the Assistant Editor in Appliances and Housekeeping. In 1962 she married Reynold G. Dahms, an entomologist with the USDA Agricultural Research Service, in Silver Spring, Maryland who became the love and focus of her life. They retired in Fayetteville in 1974. Hazel was dedicated to and loved her family, especially her nieces and nephews, and she had a memory for family names and dates that would rival anyone.

She was preceded in death by her parents, five sisters (Maude Dodds, Ethel Adair, Ione Price, Angie Faye Waldrum, and Alva Flynn), one brother (V.O. Owen) and her husband, Reynold Dahms.

Survivors include a step son, Kenneth Dahms of Lebanon, Ohio, nieces and nephews (Claudia Bourne of Sherwood, Joe D. Waldrum of Little Rock, Owen Dodds of Star City, Patricia King of Richmond, Texas, Anne Mackin of Columbus, Ohio, and Dennis Flynn of Austin, Texas), and many great nieces and nephews.

Visitation will held from 9:00 am-10:00 am Wednesday December 18, 2013 at Moore's Funeral Chapel in Fayetteville, Arkansas followed by the funeral service at 10:00 am. Interment will follow at Fairview Memorial Gardens in Fayetteville.
