Seaside ~ Jose P. Amaral, passed away on December 15, 2013, surrounded by his loved ones. Born on November 20, 1931, in Faial, Azores, to Antonio and Victoria Amaral, he immigrated to California at the age of 17. He later moved to the Monterey Peninsula, where he met the love of his life, Mary, whom he married in 1955. They were married for 58 years and one month, until her passing in August 2013. He wanted to be with his beloved Mary – and now they are together.
Joe was a legend in the plastering trade for many years, later passing on his tricks of the trade to his beloved son-in-law, Oldemiro M. Silva, who he was so proud of, always loved like a son and who was by his side throughout his illness.
Joe was the hardest working man you would ever meet, so knowledgeable in all aspects of construction. – He could do anything. He worked so hard to make a comfortable life for his family. Joe was a self-made successful man who always helped others and was ever so humble. He was an honest, loyal devoted husband, the BEST father, father-in-law and grandfather.
He was very proud of his Portuguese culture and was always involved in Portuguese organizations from his teen years. He served as Past President of the FDES of Monterey and Our Lady of Fatima Societies, and was a long-time member of St. Francis Xavier Church in Seaside and St. Angela Merici of Pacific Grove. He was also an avid F.C. Porto Soccer Club fan.
He leaves mourning his loss, his daughter, AnnaMarie, who was by his side everyday throughout his illness and loved him very much, his son-in-law Oldemiro, who was always at his side, as well as his grandson, Rafael Amaral Silva, who he loved so very much, was the light of his life and always knew how to make his Avo laugh; his cousins, Maria F. Silva and Joe and Lucille Silva of Livermore and Jose in the Azores; brother-in-law, sisters-in-law, nieces and nephews, godchildren, numerous friends and his beloved four-legged babies, Pepe and Bernard, as well as his four-legged grand-dogs. His baby Ginger, who he rescued and adored him, passed away in September.
His family is eternally grateful to all who provided care to their beloved Joe during his illness, especially all the wonderful people at Carmel Hills Care Center, who became part of our family.
Visitation will take place at The Paul Mortuary Chapel this Monday, December 23 from 9:00 AM to 10:00 AM followed by Mass of Christian Burial at St. Angela Merici Church at 11:00 AM. Burial will be at San Carlos Cemetery
