Educator and founder of the Hampton Training School for Nurses (Dixie Hospital) in Virginia; She was the youngest of two sons and three daughters of Leonard Bacon, pastor of the Center Church in New Haven and professor in the Yale Divinity School, and his second wife, Catherine Elizabeth Terry Bacon.
