Mrs. Karla Gail Allen, 57, of Barbourville, passed away Thursday, December 12, 2013 at her home. She was the daughter of the late John and Betty Riester Sparks born on February 20, 1956 in Nicholasville.

Karla was a homemaker and a member of the Springfield Baptist Church. She enjoyed sewing, fishing, eating peppermint candy, frying chicken and spending time with her family.

She united in marriage with Ford Allen on July 18, 1983 in Clay County and he preceded her in death.

Survivors include four children, David, Robert, Karen and husband, Rev. Pete, and Michael and wife, Gina, who was her caregiver; a brother, Michael and wife, Kathy; six grandchildren, Craig and wife, Natalie, Paulette and husband, Brandon, Tiffany and husband, Daniel, Miranda, Michael Jr. and Devin; seven great grandchildren, Adrien, Taya, Kaylee, Shamal, Emily, Haylee and one expected to arrive in July; among other loved ones and dear friends.

Her funeral service will be conducted in the chapel of the Knox Funeral Home Wednesday, December 18 at 2 P.M. with Dr. Malcolm Hester officiating. She will be laid to rest in the Barbourville Cemetery.

Casket bearers will be Jeff Patterson, Tony Rhodes, Craig Allen Jr., Daniel Chadwell, Brandon Mills and Tyler Trent. Honorary bearers will be Dr. Atienza, Knox County Home Health staff and Hinkle Pharmacy staff.

Friends may call at the funeral home Tuesday between 6 and 9 P.M. and Wednesday after 9 A.M. until the funeral hour.
