Our husband and dad passed away on December 13, 2013 in South Jordan, Utah.

He was born to Edward LeRoy Allen Sr. and Lillian Adelia Smith on August 19, 1941. LeRoy adored his older sister, Beverly Lei-Lani.

LeRoy had a dream childhood. He lived in the center towers of the Pilot Motel and Café next to Allen's Candy Factory. He had jobs at the motel, a special seat at the café counter, and all the candy he could eat. LeRoy made candy canes and salt water taffy. Soon his friends called him Candy Allen. Much of LeRoy's family time was spent at their cabin at Defa's Dude Ranch. Memories were made fishing, riding horseback, and camping on the shores of the Granddaddy lakes.

LeRoy drove an ice cream truck for Dairy Queen. It was there he fell in love with Ina Jean Hammond. They were married ten years and had two children, Scott Edward and Ina Christine. As a family, they managed and lived in the motel.

In 1973, LeRoy saw Ruth Cunningham and a whirlwind romance began. Four years later, Misti Michelle was born. LeRoy loved and cherished Ruth. He protected her and treated her like a queen. They have a strong and enduring love that has lasted for forty years. They explored the beauties of the world together, but the best part of life was being side by side holding hands.

LeRoy served as a Salt Lake City Police Officer for thirty-two years. During his career, the job that was the most challenging and rewarding to LeRoy was serving as a sex crimes detective. He worked hard to ensure victims received the justice they were entitled to. LeRoy and his best friend, George Scarlet, met at the police academy and retired together on the same day in 2001.

LeRoy was one of a handful of polygraph examiners in the State of Utah and created his own business named Polygraph Services. LeRoy made a significant contribution to Utah's law enforcement community by conducting pre-employment polygraphs ensuring that police forces have truthful and honorable officers. He was a master interrogator, an excellent judge of character, and enjoyed his job immensely.

LeRoy was a gadget geek, avid cruiser, and dessert enthusiast. He loved gardening, genealogy, and the news. After retiring, he returned to his roots at Defa's Dude Ranch by purchasing a cabin and calling it Old Glory. His greatest joys were his seven grandchildren, two great-grandchildren, and Oscar the dog.

A viewing will be held on Friday, December 20, 2013 from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. at Goff Mortuary, 8090 South State Street (100 East), Midvale, Utah.
