Mr. Joe Sheridan will always be remembered by a grateful San Francisco for bring with him the secret of his superb Irish Coffee drink, which was made famous by Stan Delaplane's writings of that first meeting in rainy Foynes Airport, Ireland just after World War II.
If you visit San Francisco and take the Hyde Street cablecar, take a few minutes and go to the corner bar, the Buena Vista, where Mr. Sheridan worked for many years warming the hearts of visitors and San Franciscans alike with his original recipe for Irish Coffee.
Joseph A. Sheridan passed away on the island of Kwajalein, Marshall Islands, on July 19, 1962. His remains were brought to Oakland California where a requiem mass was offered on July 23 at St. Francis de Sales, late that same day at 8:00 p. m. a rosary was given.
Mr. Sheridan was a member of the Seafarer's International Union of North America, A.F.L., Cooks and Stewards Department.
