Mrs. Vera Mae Bishop was born on September 14, 1929 to the late Jeff and Carrie Grace in Birmingham, Alabama.

She accepted Christ as her Lord and Savior at an early age and joined the Galilee Baptist Church, where she remained until death.

She was united in holy matrimony to the late John Bishop Jr. This union was blessed with two children.

After an ongoing bout with failing health, she departed this life Monday, April 21, 2008 at 5:30 a.m. at Baptist Medical Center Princeton.

She was preceded in death by one son, John Bishop III, and three brothers, Eunice Grace, Willie Grace and Walter Grace.

She leaves to cherish her memory one daughter, Gracie (Terry) Porter; five grandchildren, Bennie Lee (Johnnie) Williams, Wandnetta (Terrell) Williams, LaTonya Williams, Kiston Bishop and Kristina Bishop; twelve great-grandchildren; one sister, Catherine May of Rancho Cucamonga, California; four nephews, Timothy Grace, Eunice Grace, James A. (Mary) Smith of Milwaukee, Wisconsin and Jeremy C. Smith; four nieces, Wanda (James) Cochran of Rancho Cucamonga, California, Verdell S. Hardy, Denise G. Thomas and Vivetta G. Hill; six step-grandchildren; and a host of relatives and friends.

Viewing was Friday April 25, 2008, 2:00 pm - 8:00 pm at Poole's Funeral Chapel. Funeral service was Saturday April 26, 2008, 11:00 am at Galilee Baptist Church.
